My title is a cliche but in this case it’s the only phrase to expend. The version of this movie available now, with its extra disc fat of grand bonus material, is an example of how to bring DVD format to its highest potential. First of course there’s the movie, and its director Sergio Leone. Every Leone movie I’ve seen–Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Apt Awful and Terrifying, Once Upon a Time in America–is fabulous, but this tops them all. Imagine the year 1969: what a ample time to be a western film lover. You had this, and Sam Peckinpah’s Wild Bunch in the same year. Extraordinary. Anyway, it’s impossible to list all the gargantuan scenes, so I’ll stick with the first. If you fancy the credit sequence you’ll treasure the movie; it’s not for everybody, however. So those credits, mostly peaceful except for a windmill creaking, which Leone somehow makes dismal, and one of the minimal details he uses to attach authentic mood, are the litmus test. You’ll either savor the movie or disfavor it. The scene is built on a genius contradiction: it’s so tense that you want it to demolish, but it’s so beautifully done, so built on image and gesture and glimpse, that you also hope it never ends. The whole movie is that toothsome. And the cast–wow. Everyone is at top perform, but check out Henry Fonda as the leanest meanest bastard imaginable, but also someone you can’t avoid enjoying because it is the Gargantuan Mr. Fonda, with Leone getting maximum mileage out of halt ups of Fonda’s ice-blue eyes, as unforgiving as a western sky, generally acting like the amiable stalwart figure he always plays, until he shoots small kids and rotund lackeys whom he doesn’t trust because they wear both suspenders and belts: and as Fonda says, how can you trust a man who can’t even trust his absorb pants? As the heroine, Claudia Cardinale isn’t unprejudiced fine she’s palatable, lust-us. And tough. Peer for the scene where she looks at herself in the mirror when she’s all alone in her house. whose previous residents, her family, have been killed by Fonda and his thugs. Charles Bronson–what an underrated actor. Risky yet entirely sympathetic here. He finds wit in his role, knows exactly what the modern Leone’s up to and gets in sync with the vision. Jason Robards is incapable of giving a performance less than intelligent, and this is another highlight in the film. As Cheyenne he is laughable and tough and shiny, maybe the most complex performance in the movie. There’s so worthy more, too–the finest Ennio Morricone soundtrack, killer dialogue, wonderful cinematography. This DVD is do together so well it’s even a pleasure to peer at the menus–you’ll inspect what I mean. And all this for under FIFTEEN U.S. DOLLARS. What are you waiting for?

ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST is arguably Sergio Leone’s greatest Western, although Clint Eastwood’s three films with him remain among my favorites. Actually, Leone had hoped to have Eastwood in this film as Harmonica, but they were unable to work things out. As it is, I mediate having Charles Bronson in the role is more effective. It was central to Eastwood’s persona in those three films that he be both a man with no name and with no past, but Harmonica’s character is entirely driven by the past and his need for revenge.

The beginning of this film are among my popular in the history of film. Leone is arguably the most patient director in the history of film, and is willing to occupy fifteen minutes for something another director would be abominate to occupy two. The two sizable instances of Leone’s patience are the scene in the uncut version of ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA, where he allows a phone to ring thirty or forty times, and here at the beginning, where he takes fourteen minutes to expose three men waiting to men a speak.

As a whole, this is a far more ambitious project than Leone’s other Westerns. The spot is a bit more memoir, the sweep of the film a bit grander, the relations between the characters more complex. Like most of his other films, it was filmed primarily in Europe, but unlike the others, a couple of scenes were actually shot in the United States, in particular in Monument Valley, the signature situation of John Ford, the director most associated with Westerns. He handles characters a bit differently in this than in his earlier films. For instance, Leone ties a musical theme to each of the major characters in the film, distinguished as did Prokofiev with “Peter and the Wolf.”

One aspect of the film that is simultaneously a strength and a weakness is the casting. Leone here works with a group of performers he had not worked with before. A couple of the performers are simply intelligent. Charles Bronson was bright, and his small, piercing blue eyes lend an eerie intensity to many of his shroud moments. The casting of the equally blue-eyed Henry Fonda as a sadistic villain was a stroke of genius, and he manages to do one of his most memorable roles. I have, however, pain with the other two major performers. Claudia Cardinale was certainly pretty, but she simply does not bring as worthy to her role that many other actresses would have. Women do not feature prominently in Leone’s films, and that might be because he simply didn’t portray to women as well as men. At any rate, I reflect the movie would have been greatly improved with someone else in her role. I had similar problems with Jason Robards. He fair did not radiate the aura of anxiety that his character was supposed to, and the musical theme that was tied to his character sounded somewhat clownish. I found him to be the most poorly conceived and executed character in the film.

Despite these two cavils, this is an extraordinary movie, and is by far one of the most thoughtful, recent Westerns ever made. The ending is perhaps the finest of his many Westerns, as well as one of the most surprising. It easily goes on any list of the greatest Westerns in the history of film.

There are only two special features on this DVD, and they both belong to Pam Grier. And that’s reason enough to assume it! She has two nude scenes in this lackluster blaxploitation thriller that largely fails to thrill, and her sparkle is the only spark here. A sterling cast, including Jim Backus, Earha Kitt, Carl Weathers, Scatman Crothers, and Yaphet Kotto, is wasted here, but they try their best with what they’re given. The movie is in widescreen and the image quality is valid. There’s the movie trailer and a scene and language selector, and that’s it. For `70s blaxploitation genre fans and Pam Grier fans only, but that’s quite a mountainous audience!

“Friday Foster” is a light-hearted grief, not as violent or sexual as “Coffy” or “Foxy Brown” but is serene luscious. As the title character, Grier plays a photo journalist for a fashion magazine who stumbles onto an assasination attempt on a prominent dusky politician. Following her nose, she discovers a larger conspiracy out to eliminate other dim politicans. Quiet perfectly of the 1970′s, it has its allotment of violence, including an unintentionally hilarious rooftop gun fight between Yaphet Kotto and Carl Weathers. Pam Grier level-headed contributes her obligatory nude scenes, one in a shower, one in a jacuzzi, and of course one in a bed. Comedian Godfrey Cambridge has an bewitching role as a overjoyed club owner, and Ted Lange from “The Cherish Boat” makes a humorous cameo as a sweet-talking pimp. Other blaxploitation regulars appear throughout the film as well.

“Coffy” and “Foxy Brown” serene remain the ultimate Pam Grier films, but this one collected stands immense with it’s blaxploitation culture (“She’s objective all woman”, “Damn I need a beer!”) . “Friday Foster” is a helpful addition for the hardcore fans.

FINALLY! I notion I was going to pass out when I rec’d an e-mail notification that almost all my common films from the 60′s were finally coming to DVD, especially since Susan Slade never saw the ‘light of day’ on VHS. I bear the other 3 titles on VHS and have watched them hundreds of times, with immense pleasure for an uncomplicated time in our lives. These movies were always shown on Saturday nights when I was a pre-teen. I was petrified each and every time I watched “Susan Slade”, that this unmarried girl had a baby!!! Boy, oh boy have times changed….my bear twenty something children would laugh at me now for my innocent views- But my enjoyment over bounds with each viewing, so this 4 movie dwelling is like getting a birthday and Christmas gift all rolled into one! Now….if only we could gain `A Rage to Live’, `Youngblood Hawke’, `Summer Love’, ‘Claudelle Inglish’,'The Chapman Report’ and `My Blood Runs Cold’ on DVD my life would be complete! (no, not really but it sounds respectable) – I am so proud of Warner Brothers for taking a leap of faith that there is smooth an audience for these fun and classic 60′s films! Bravo, Warner Brothers….you did safe!

I received the Romance Classics station today and here are my impressions of the video quality. First of all, awe not. All the films are 16×9 widescreen and anamorphic video(enhanced for widescreen TVs) . Parrish, Susan Slade, and Rome Adventure are all dual-layer DVDs, with the shorter Palm Springs Weekend being a single layer disc. I would rate them in order of video quality as:

Buy,Download, Or Stream Warner Bros. Romance Classics Collection! Click Here

1. Susan Slade

2. Palm Springs Weekend

3. Rome Adventure

4. Parrish

Buy,Download, Or Stream Warner Bros. Romance Classics Collection! Click Here

Susan Slade was never on VHS or laserdisc and appears to be a modern, unusual transfer. It is very captivating and well-organized with stout colors. Palm Springs Weekend was on VHS and laserdisc and is well-kept with nice color, but somewhat softer than Susan Slade. Rome Adventure and Parrish (my approved film of the four) appear to me to be from the extinct mid-1990s masters for VHS and laserdisc. While they scrutinize safe, they have a limited layer of video grain and some softness. The skintones on Rome Adventure are a bit reddish for my tastes but not too poor. The sound on all the films is mono and okay.

I wish all the films had been remastered up to the quality of Susan Slade, but it is gigantic to have them on DVD and for a ample ticket.

“Todo Sobre Mi Madre,” or “All About My Mother,” revolves around the life of an organ transplant coordinator, Manuela, who was briefly shown in one of Almodovar’s most modern movie “The Flower of My Secret”. After the death of her only child, Manuela sets off from Madrid to Barcelona to bag both his father and the traveling troupe who performs “A Streetcar Named Desire,” throughout Spain.

Argentinian actress Cecilia Roth is both favorable and convincing as Manuela. Her performance for an actress not from Spain is current, since most of Almodovar’s leading startlets are Spaniards. Marisa Paredes as Huma, a fading starlet, reminded me of her performance in “High Heels,” wher she played a similar character. However the two emerging standouts in this film are Antonia San Juan as Manuela’s drag-queen friend (fact: although she looks like a man, San Juan is actually a woman) and the heavenly Penelope Cruz, who plays a HIV-positive pregnant nun (only Almodovar can bring us such characters) . Cruz, who radiates natural beauty and style has become Spain hottest export to Hollywood since Antonio Banderas. Sustain an discover out for her in the approach future.

The visual design of colors, patterns, and clothes brings the film so grand beauty it is unbearable not to peek and esteem it. Almodovar’s camera illusions, especially watching a grieving Manuela urge to her injured son, Esteban, after he is struck by a car (the camera looks like if the victim is watching his mother speed in the rain) and the trick of watching Esteban write in his journal (we notice his pencil travel through a glass that is supposed to be his pad) is wonderful. Only the pure genius that Almodovar is could have view of this.

This happens to be Almdovar’s best film in the past 10 years. Truly, if you are an artist, an admirer of Spanish culture, or impartial treasure art films, then this film will fascinate you. A legal gem in the evolution of Spanish cinema.

A flashy, sophisticated swirl of color, fabricate, and art nouveau excess courtesy of the city of Barcelona frame a melodramatic core of prima donna antics and suffering mujeres. These women are draw past a nervous breakdown–Cecilia Roth’s raw emotions location the tone for noteworthy of the film; the transgender Antonia San Juan provides the madcap Almodovar wit of his earlier movies. Penelope Cruz stands out–a gloomy beauty who gives a haunting, fragile performance as an HIV-infected, pregnant nun. Throw in Marisa Paredes as an aging diva with ruby hair touring in a production of A Streetcar Named Desire and the stage is situation for Almodovar’s tribute to suffering womanhood, replete with wistful references to All About Eve. Not as consistently delicious as some of his earlier work but perhaps more broken-down and unlit, more resigned to the vicissitudes of esteem and death. It’s astounding that Almodovar–the greatest Spanish director since Bunuel–could have remained proper to his sensibility and have won an academy award. He’s Bunuel with none of the bitterness–Bunuel with a smile and a wink at the absurd.

I grow very tired of having to interpret my care for for this display to people who seem offended by it’s very existence.

To sum it up, humdrum it down, and wrap it in a convienent “awkward” petite package for people who constantly feel the need to expect the merit of this shows humor, I will give examples of WHY the exhibit appeals to me:

1) I indulge in the shows vibrant utilize of colors. This may seem irrelevant or a ridiculous reason to some, but I rep the notice of the point to to be aesthetically magnificent to my watch. Visually, if I like what I explore, that keeps me watching.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!: Season 2! Click Here

2) I savor Davin Woods music he creates to accompany definite segments of the prove. The man knows what he is doing and is very talented at what he does. Believe of the music that accompanies the Cinco commercials, the shows intro, or the hilariously mellodramatic music that plays during the “Damnit” bit of the “Hacky Sack Improper” skit in Season One.

3) I derive that the point to brilliantly parodies media. In Paticular, the awkwardness of “live television” (Steve Brule, Married News Team) . Local afternoon news shows (“The Unique You”) . Ridiculous “caught on video, candid camera” style shows (Spagett) . And last but not least, the shameless companies that will churn out useless products unprejudiced so you will plunk down your hard earned dollar on crap you could live without (Cinco product commercials) . There is loads of subtext here…and if you don’t study it, you may be blind.

4) I appreciate the bizarre scheme that they mix comedy with elements of anxiety. (Slothful Horse Mattresses, “It’s Not Jackie Chan”, The Child Clown Safety Video, Maria Bamford’s very realistic potrayal of severe mental illness, “Druwing on Drawing” etc.)

5) I like the editing style, I am especially a fan of the “Glitch” segments.

6) The attention to detail. Any number of segments stare like they could have advance straight out of 1993, and if taken out of context of the demonstrate you would be hard pressed, in some cases, to acquire evidence proving otherwise.

7) The guys seem like they are genuinely having fun with the note and the universe they have created. They have in their work, regardless of the many people who honest “Don’t net it” or “bag it but don’t like it”. I respect that.

I could go on and on but you gather the concept. While YOU may not like it, and that is your perrogative, many people DO…so powerful so that the reveal is on it’s 4th season and a 5th season has recently been greenlit.

The explain will continue to exist and cause many slow night couch potatoes, who haven’t joined the fold, to scratch their collective head and wonder “How the hell does anybody win this comic? “. If you have ever found yourself asking that examine, try not being so offensive and realize that the buck doesn’t end with you. Humor is subjective.

Hi, Steve. I hope you read this. Have you talked to Jerry lately? I can’t find a own of him on the phone and I contemplate he might have left to go out of town. He didn’t philosophize anyone if he did, but his TV is on but I judge he unprejudiced left it on so no one would realize he really had left. If you contemplate Janice, or Sherry, or Carmen, I need you to ask them to call me. They’ll know why when you exclaim them. It’s a really long memoir and I mediate a partially-nude, latex-fetish chatroom isn’t probably the plot to score into that. I’m… I’m fair not ready. (heavy boom)

Anyway. Hope you indulge in those DVDs I sent you.

Best regards,

This is a astonishing collection for those who care only about seeing their popular Frasier episodes or the ones they missed. Hands down, Frasier is the wittiest, most imaginative sitcom since the Dick Van Dyke note. Only the lustrous, much-missed MST3K made me laugh out loud as consistently. I beget Frasier Seasons One through Three, and even though I admire watching my well-liked episodes a second or third time, the extras are disappointing. The Bulldog featurette and the Maris extras on this Season Three area are snooze-worthy. Why rehash the same material that’s on the disc? We fans want behind-the-scenes footage, rehearsal footage, bloopers, deleted scenes, etc. We want to seek John Mahoney flub his lines and crack everyone up! And we all know that Moose is hardly a one-take dawg. I’m determined the producers have plenty of outtake reels hanging around. More commentary, outtakes, bloopers, deleted scenes, please, for Season Four!!! Please listen to your fans, Kelsey!

Frasier marked the extinguish of the shows that thrived on posthaste wit and the constant juggle versus the occasional belly laugh. This collection is some of the best of the series and another reminder of an era that is started out with the likes of the Cosby Display, Night Court, Cheers and now is sadly coming to an waste.

I have been a fan of this movie since it came out in 1990. I saw it in the theater, bought it on video tape and finally on DVD.

Imagine my surprise when I read Mr. Beatty was putting together a director’s crop of this movie for a propose “Vista Series” release.

I read on various sites, including “Ain’t It Frosty,” that 20-30 minutes would be added and the overall tone of the characterize would be darker.

This was a couple of years ago and I haven’t seen anything unusual on it.

I understand Mr. Beatty and Disney have gotten into some right issues regarding who has rights over the film. I fair hope they are resolved snappy and Mr. Beatty can regain the Director’s Chop out.

I cherish the first lop of the movie, but felt at times they were holding wait on on obvious themes in order to bring in as many people as possible to accomplish the represent edifying. If you stare at the new comical, it was violent.

I loved Beatty as the unbiased cop, Madonna as the dame and Al Pacino as the ganster Sizable Boy. I also loved the fact they shot it in the basic color contrivance of the funny.

The expansive things we are discovering with the DVD format is that now both the studios and the directors can have their cake and eat it too.

Studios can build out films at a length that can maximize effect sales and directors can indicate their films as they intended on DVD for the people who want to spy it.

I am really looking forward to the day we can observe the director’s reduce of this film.

Disney and Mr. Beatty – DON’T Preserve US WAITING TOO Noteworthy LONGER!!!!!!!!!

The script lives up to its subject, a cartoon strip, but fans of the ragged Dick Tracy won’t be disappointed. Our used popular characters are all there and the soundtrack, especially Madonna’s sexy “Sooner or Later” is unbelievable. The production values are tall, with a obvious droll book feel and appearance, and even if we didn’t obtain all these huge items to devour, there’s the cameo and casting with some of Hollywood’s brightest stars. Definitely worth adding to your DVD collection

This film has received more unpleasant reviews than any other dread movie I have ever read about, and after seeing it I can’t even originate to understand why! Based on the H.P. Lovecraft short fable of the same title, THE DUNWICH Awe follows warlock Wilbur Whatley’s desperate quest to restore his fiendish family to their rightful dwelling as rulers of the universe. However, there are two crucial factors needed in carrying out this aroused notion. Firstly and foremost, Whatley must locate a copy of the Necronomicon, an mature book of execrable spells, and the sacrifice of a pure, but detached sexually resplendent female(that’s where delicate college co-ed Sandra Dee figures into the memoir) . As the wild-eyed Whatley, Dean Stockwell is clearly having a ball, and was obviously warming up for his hammy role in David Lynch’s sci-fi opus DUNE. Ed Begley, in his final film role, also seems to be enjoying himself as Stockwell’s chief Nemesis, Dr. Armitadge. However, the best and most convincing performance by far is given by blooming young Sandra Dee(of GIDGET fame) who makes an effective Sob QUEEN debut. This film has received many negative notices, but it’s not terrible at all, even by today’s standards. The film was made on a noticeably low-budget, but manages to compose some proper scares and has a menacing air of creepy, Gothic atmosphere throughout. Furthermore, this movie is one of the better attempts to lift literary mastermind H.P. Lovecraft on celluloid. If the film seems rather long(it’s 90 minutes), remember that Lovecraft’s current memoir was only about 35-40 pages long. For the most piece, the screenwriters have added some genuinely effective touches to flesh out the anecdote. In my conception, the film is fairly successful at sustaining the viewer’s interest for most of its 90 minutes, and most importantly, director Daniel Haller has successfully captured the mood and flavor of Lovecraft’s novel narrative. Also, fans of the used Sunless SHADOWS/NIGHT GALLERY series will be gratified by this shrimp flick which is similar in tone and style to those early ’70′s TV dismay classics.

I belief this movie ruled. Okay, maybe it strayed from the legend a bit, by taking a nine-foot sizable alien freak and turning him into Dean Stockwell, and by adding a very hot Sandra Dee, but they at least tried. This is the only instance of movie exploitation, I contemplate, that wouldn’t have cause H.P. Lovecraft to roll over in his grave. And maybe Wilbur’s star-spawned twin brother was a microscopic goofy, but I notion it had that kind of rubber-suit-monster Night Stalker charm. Overall, the movie had a kind of narcotic gloss that aided well in the suspension of disbelief. I recommend this movie highly—both to Lovecraft fans and to ordinary dismay buffs. It’s wintry, and even if this movie did hurt Sandra Dee’s career, she was hot. After all, monsters, even the slimy ones from outer place, need care for too. So reach on, guys, have a heart.
